Want a peaceful vacation with breathe taking scenery? Flaming Gorge Lake offers 201,000 or more acres full of many activities throughout the year. Flaming Gorge falls along the line of Utah and Wyoming and stretches north to Green River. Below the dam gives some of the best trout fishing in the state. Many choose to stay within the camping grounds to take advantage of the hiking, fishing, and boating. Even in the winter you can go ice fishing and snow mobile riding.
The incredible scenery is enjoyed by anyone who enjoys natural beautiful colors. The layers of rock in the Flaming Gorge hold many layers containing 40 million years or so of history. Fossils such as flora and fauna are often found along these shorelines. These finds came from the prehistoric time of the early Tertiary period. Before the Mexican War, the Flaming Gorge area in Wyoming belonged to Mexico. The United States annexed this state in 1848. During an expedition, Major John Wesley Powell had mapped this area as he traveled the Green and Colorado rivers. He gave this magnificent place the name Flaming Gorge.
Lake Flaming Gorge is said to be an 'aquatic paradise'. Boating, sailing, swimming, windsurfing, water skiing, scuba diving…the list goes on and on. This famous lake is known for fishing world records. Some trout grow to an enormous 50lbs! For true relaxation with beautiful scenery all around you, Wyoming offers all of that and more.
