Frontier Days in Cheyenne, Wyoming

Frontier Days in Cheyenne, Wyoming features a world class PRCA rodeo, known as the “Daddy of ‘em All”.   In addition to PRCA rodeos every day, Frontier Days offers parades, a carnival midway,  Native American entertainment, wild west shows, and a static air show featuring the USAF Thunderbirds and other flyovers.  Nighttime entertainment features big name concerts by such performers as the Guess Who, Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift, and Sugarland.

The main reason Cheyenne’s Frontier Days is famous, however, is world-class PRCA rodeo action.  This rodeo includes steer wrestling and roping, barrel racing, team roping, wild horse riding, saddle, rookie, and bareback bronc riding, and the ever popular bullriding.  Bullriding is rodeo’s most popular and dangerous event.  A rope is tied around the chest of a 2,000 lb bull.  A cowboy sits on top of the bull, grasping the rope with one hand and tries to stay on the bull for eight full seconds to receive a score.  The bull spins, jerks and kicks trying to knock the rider off its back.  The more the bull fights to unseat the rider, the higher the cowboy’s score.

This year, Frontier Days was held July 18-28.  The event is in its 112th year.  A fun feature of Frontier Days is the free pancake breakfast held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of rodeo week.  Typically, over 100,000 pancakes and 3,000 pounds of ham are served to over 40,000 people.  Cheyenne Frontier Days are a Wyoming tradition, and well worth the trip through the beautiful state of Wyoming.
